These are the terms for using Unplug. By downloading the app or creating an account, you agree to them. Please read section 4 — it is the one that actually matters for your health.

Referred to below as "we" or "us".

02The licence

Unplug is licensed to you, not sold. Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement applies to that licence and is available at:

https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

These Terms of Use sit alongside it and cover the things Apple's document does not: what the subscription actually gets you, how to behave towards other users, and what this app is and is not (section 4). If the two ever contradict each other on the licence itself, Apple's document wins.

In plain terms, you may use Unplug on the Apple devices you own. You may not copy it, resell it, take it apart, or try to get around the parts you have not paid for.

03Who can use Unplug

You must be at least AUSFUELLEN · VON LUKAS ZU FÜLLEN — Mindestalter years old.

Two things worth weighing when you set that number, both of which come from what the app actually contains:

  • Unplug has a Recovery Coach for pornography addiction and an adult content filter. That shapes the App Store age rating, and the rating and this number should not contradict each other.
  • German law puts the age at which someone can consent to an online service's data processing on their own at 16 (Art. 8 GDPR together with § 1 BDSG-style national rules). Below that you need a parent's consent, which is a mechanism this app does not currently have.

AUSFUELLEN · VON LUKAS ZU FÜLLEN — juristisch prüfen lassen: Mindestalter, App-Store- Altersfreigabe und Art. 8 DSGVO gemeinsam festlegen, damit die drei zueinander passen.

You need an account to use most of the app. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.

04Unplug is not medical or therapeutic. This is the important part.

Unplug is a self-help and habit app. It is not a medical device, not therapy, not treatment, and not a substitute for professional help.

That has to be said clearly because Unplug works with addictive behaviour — compulsive phone use, doomscrolling, pornography use. Those are real problems that can have real clinical weight. Unplug is a tool for building habits, and a tool is not a clinician.

Specifically:

  • Nothing in Unplug is a diagnosis. The "Brain Rewiring" progress, the 90-day milestones, the recovery counter and the streak are motivational structure. They are not measurements of your brain, your health, or your recovery.
  • Lumis and the Recovery Coach are AI, not people. They are language models. They can be wrong, they can be confidently wrong, and they do not know your medical history. Do not use them for medical advice, medication questions, or a crisis.
  • The AI photo check can be wrong, in both directions. It is a convenience, not a judge.
  • The "time reclaimed" figure is an estimate, built from the daily usage you entered yourself during onboarding. It is not a measurement, and the app says so where it appears.

If you are struggling, talk to a doctor or a therapist. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line — in Germany, the Telefonseelsorge is free and available at 0800 111 0 111 or 0800 111 0 222. Unplug is not equipped for that and does not pretend to be.

05Subscriptions

Unplug is free to download. Some features need a paid plan: Unplug Pro or Unplug Unlimited.

Price and length are shown on the purchase screen inside the app before you buy anything. They come from the App Store, in your currency, so this document deliberately does not repeat them — a price written here would go stale and be wrong.

Here is how it works:

  • Payment is taken by Apple through your App Store account when you confirm the purchase.
  • It renews automatically. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, it renews and you are charged for another period at the same price.
  • Free trials, where offered, are shown on the purchase screen with their length. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged. If you do not, the subscription starts. An unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription, as Apple requires us to say.
  • To cancel, open iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Unplug → Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. We cannot cancel it for you, and deleting your account does not cancel it either.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Ask through https://reportaproblem.apple.com. Your statutory rights are not affected by this — see section 10.
  • Restoring: if you reinstall the app or change device, use "Restore purchases" on the paywall.
  • We may change prices. If we do, it applies to periods that start after the change, and Apple notifies you and asks you to agree before charging you more.

What each plan unlocks can change. We add and rework features. We will not take away something you specifically paid for without telling you and giving you a way out.

06Being decent to other people

Unplug has friends, a leaderboard, challenges and short messages. The rules are short:

  • Pick a username that is not abusive. Nothing checks this automatically — we read reports and act on them.
  • Messages to friends are picked from a fixed list. There is no free text on purpose — so there is nothing to write that could be used to harass someone. Do not try to work around that.
  • Do not cheat. Faking quest photos, manipulating streaks, or using multiple accounts to game the leaderboard.
  • Do not use the app to harass, impersonate, or upset anybody.
  • Your profile picture is publicly reachable by link. Do not upload anything illegal, anything explicit, or a photo of someone who has not agreed to it.

If you break these rules we may remove content, suspend your account, or delete it. For anything serious we will do it immediately; for anything borderline we will contact you first.

You can report a problem, or a user, at support.unplug@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 24 hours.

07What Unplug can and cannot do to your phone

Unplug uses Apple's Screen Time features to block apps. Some of that is designed to be hard to undo — that is the point of it. So that there are no surprises:

  • The adult content filter cannot be switched off for 72 hours after you turn it on. When those 72 hours are up, nothing happens automatically: the filter keeps running, it just becomes switchable again. The confirmation dialog tells you the exact date and time before you commit.
  • The content filter works in every browser on your device, but not inside apps that draw their own feed — Reddit, X, Instagram, Telegram. It is not total protection, and we would rather you know that than find out.
  • App blocks and your daily limit are held until the next day by design.
  • You can always get out by removing Unplug's Screen Time permission in iOS Settings, or by deleting the app. We cannot stop that and do not claim to. What we promise is narrower and true: Unplug will not switch these things off early.
  • The 72 hours are counted against your phone's clock. If you change the date and time in iOS Settings, the wait ends when that clock says it does. We have no way to tell a corrected clock from a moved one, and we would rather write this down than let the promise sound bigger than it is.

08Your content

Anything you create in Unplug — your journal, your goals, your habits, your photos — belongs to you. We do not claim ownership and we do not use it to train anything.

We store it so the app works and so it survives a reinstall. You give us permission to do that, and nothing more. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Your username and profile picture are shown to other users, which is the unavoidable consequence of having a leaderboard.

09Availability, and what happens if something breaks

We want Unplug to work all the time and cannot promise it will. It depends on services we do not run — Apple's, our hosting provider's, an AI provider's — and any of them can have a bad day.

  • We may change, pause or stop features. If we stop something you are paying for, we will tell you.
  • We may take the whole service down, with reasonable notice, unless something makes that impossible.
  • Back up what matters to you. Your journal is stored on our server and on your phone, and that is two copies, not a guarantee.

10Liability

We are liable without limit for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for damage to life, body or health. We are also liable under the German Product Liability Act where it applies.

For simple negligence, we are only liable if we breach an obligation that is essential to this agreement — one you must be able to rely on for the app to work at all — and only up to the damage that was foreseeable and typical for this kind of agreement.

Any further liability is excluded.

Nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights, and nothing here takes away rights you have against Apple as the seller of the subscription.

11Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time: delete your account in Settings, cancel your subscription in iOS Settings, delete the app. In that order, if you want everything gone.

We can end it if you seriously or repeatedly break section 6, or if we shut the service down. If we end it for a reason that is not your fault and you have paid for a period that has not run out, you get the unused part back.

12Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we update this page and the date at the top. For changes that matter, we tell you in the app before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using Unplug and cancel your subscription.

13Law and jurisdiction

German law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of mandatory rules in the country where you live.

Juli 2025 abgeschaltet, ein Link darauf wäre also falsch. Bitte gegenprüfen, was stattdessen anzugeben ist.

If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest stays in force.
